Bodrum is a city and region in the county of Mugla in south-west Turkey, on the shores of the Aegean Sea, at the entrance to the Gumbet Bay. It was founded by the Phoenicians when they first arrived at this area, has later been turned into an important Roman trade harbor and has been populated ever since. In Roman times, Bodrum’s name was Halicarnassus of Caria, and at that time it was home to the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Bodrum is surrounded by gorgeous beaches with clean sand and clear waters. The city offers many historical and archaeological monuments that you can visit like St. Peter’s Castle, built by the Hospitaller knights in 1402, and now serving as a museum. The city is also known for its fun nightlife and delicious cuisine.
