Greece is one of the most toured countries in the world, a magnet for tourists from all countries and a favorite retirement location for many Europeans. This is due to its sunny climate, relatively low cost accommodation and housing prices and proximity to many European, North African and Middle Eastern countries, which makes most flights to Greece short and fairly inexpensive.

Greece is a diverse country, with such fascinating large cities as Athens and Thessaloniki or capital city of Crete, Heraklion, as well as romantic, pastoral little islands such as Corfu, Santorini and Mikonos. Each island and region of Greece has its own character and vibe, so that anyone can find a vacation to their own taste.

This is why each holiday in Greece is different – you can enjoy an all-included, sun-tanning beach stay, or rent a car and travel to a different direction each day. If you like, you can explore the wild and gorgeous nature of Greece, visit Meteora or other remote monasteries, travel to the green mountains and the deep-blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Or you can stay at one of the big cities, enjoying shopping at the country’s usually excellent prices. In the big cities you’ll also be able to visit museums to view artifacts and archaeological findings from ancient times and enjoy the tourist attractions the city has to offer. Additionally, Greek cities have a delightful night culture with Greek music performances, dancing, bubbly tavernas, excellent restaurants and more.

In the past few years, many businesspeople and real-estate investors have also taken an interest in the country, and have been swarming in, opening businesses and companies and investing in housing projects on the main peninsula or the islands. The local authorities welcome this trend and offer assistance to businesspeople who wish to conduct business or invest in Greece. The trend is followed by an increase in money coming into the country and is expected to continue, helping Greece overcome and recover from the economic depression it fell into during the previous decade.

Destinations in Greece:

Athens

One of the oldest cities in the world, the capital city of Greece and its economic, government, commercial, industrial and cultural center. It is situated in the Attica region, surrounded by high mountains and featuring a big seaport that has been operating since the time of Ancient Greece – the Piraeus port.

Athens is a modern European city, with high-end accommodations, effective public transportation, tourist attractions and entertainment options. It is also full of ancient relics, historical and archaeological sites. The most well-known out of those is the Parthenon, on top of the Acropolis hill.

Santorini

Santorini is in fact a group of tiny islands, the biggest of which is named Santorini. One of the most popular and beautiful holiday resorts in the world, ideal for romantic and family vacations. Recommended to see on the island is its volcano, the famous deep blue-roofed houses on the hills above the Aegean Sea. Try to eat as much as you can of the wonderful Greek food served on the island.

Heraklion

The capital city of the island of Crete and the largest city on the island. The ancient port and the city’s archaeology museum are highly recommended. The city also features a large shopping avenue, the must-see restored Knossos palace, a huge marine aquarium and a colorful market. You can use the city as a base for car trips around the island.

Mikonos

One of the most luxurious locations in Greece, favored by celebrities and tycoons from all over the world. It features exclusive hotels and breath-taking views, designer boutiques, an ancient port and wild nightlife with parties, shows, bars and clubs.

Rhodes

The island of Rhodes is visited by millions each year, who come to see its main city and the miniature fishing villages spread around it. Don’t miss the Valley of Butterflies on the island, which, as its name suggests, is a valley that attracts a large number of multicolored butterflies. Also visit the Rhodes Acropolis, the picturesque alleys in the Old City of Xora and the Rhodes Sea Park and aquarium.

Thessaloniki

The second largest city in Greece, with fascinating history and archaeology that are now part of a modern Western city with a rich culture. The city offers everything you can ask for in a big European city, including archaic alleys, vibrant markets, unique architecture, shopping opportunities and great food.

Kos

An island that is part of the Dodecanese island chain in the southeastern Aegean Sea, in the western side of a bay next to Rhodes. Visit the main city of Kos, its port and knights’ fortress, the small fishing villages, important archaeological sites such as Asclepion, assorted markets, bays and beaches.

Corfu

This is the Greek island which became well-known through the book “My Family and Other Animals” by British author Gerald Durrell, that told the story of his family’s move to the island. It is an especially green place, with millions (not an exaggeration!) of olive trees and grapevines that grow on it. The island features lovely little coves and beachfronts facing clear-blue waters with high cliffs towering over them. It is said that the island offers the most magnificent sunsets in all of Greece.

Chania

The second largest city in Crete and the most beautiful one. Travel to the city’s lighthouse, one of the oldest in the world, to the covered market and to the Samariá Gorge – a special nature reserve. It is a good idea to join the active nightlife of the city in the tavernas, restaurants, musical shows and night clubs.

Zakynthos

The third largest island of Greece and one of the prettiest. It offers mostly entertainment for younger people, including parties, extreme activities, alcohol and shows. But you can also visit the small fishing villages, the Blue Caves or the Island of Turtles, the water parks that are suitable for families with young children, and you can also watch and learn how olive oil is prepared in traditional methods.
