Milan

Airport: Milan Malpensa Airport

Milan is the fashion capital of Italy, and some would say the whole world’s. It is a huge city with over 2 million residents living in or around it. It is situated in central-north Italy, on the River Po. The city has been an important trade post for many hundreds of years, leading to it being one of the most flourishing cities of Europe today, rated by Mercer among the top 10 cities of Europe in terms of quality of life.

A visit to Milan is a must for anyone enthusiastic about fashion, but not only. Milan offers a great variety of attractions to visitors and was also rated as one of the top 10 places to visit by the Lonely Planet and National Geographic Traveler magazines. Milan hosts a multitude of conferences and exhibitions each year, such as the Milan Fashion Week (one of the “Four Greats”), the Milan Furniture Exhibition, the Milan Design Week and many others. The city also attracts visitors from all over the world that come to see its art galleries, museums, famous opera houses and theaters. The Duomo di Milano is its most well-known monument, and one of the most famous churches in Italy. Built in 1386, its front is made out of pink, white, and green marbles, as well as black, red and grey granite that come together to create an amazing architectural masterpiece.

Milan’s food scene is one that mustn’t be missed. Restaurants in the city offer some wonderful traditional dishes, alongside more modern ones. You can enjoy a roof restaurant overlooking the Duomo square, or one of the eateries in the youthful recreation area on the river Po.

In 2017, Milan was ranked as one of the most living-worthy cities in Europe by The Economist. It is a university city, in which operate some major academic institutions, public and private, especially in the field of design. On top of it being a city of fashion, art and design, it is also a center of business and real estate. The city’s economy relies on sections such as production, banking and finance, retail and, of course, tourism. Its leading industries are food processing, metal processing, textile, chemicals, publishing and printing. The city hosts many international companies, such as Google and Facebook, which have placed their European headquarters in it.
